Bhandardara Lake, Bhandardara

Bhandardara Lake also known as Arthur Lake is made by Wilson Dam blocking the Pravara river. This lake is pristine and known for its waterfalls.

Two colors of the lake can be seen separated distinctly on above picture when it rains slightly. One is light blue and other is dark blue at far background.

Wilson Dam, Bhandardara

Built in 1910 across River Pravara, Wilson Dam is situated at a height of 150 m above sea level. It’s one of the oldest dams in the country. The opening of sluice gates creates two 60 to 80 feet cascades of water that plummet to the rocks below. When gates are open it creates a fall called as Umbrella falls. Garden is made at its base. Walking over the dam is prohibited and is under CCTV surveillance.

Paabargad offers an excellent view of Bhandardara reservoir. Accessible from Guhire village.

Amruteshwar Temple, Ratanwadi, Bhandardara


Stone carved Shiva Temple made during Shilahaar Family ruling in Maharashtra 900 AD. This is one of 12 Shiva Temples built by King Jhanj. The style of Amruteshwar temple is called Hemadpanthi Style.The Shivling was drowned under water.

1) By car from Shendi village (16 kms appx)
2) By boat from MTDC lodge (2 hrs appx)

Konkankada, Ghatghar, Bhandardara

Konkankada, also Ghatghar is a place from where one can see Konkan on clear day. Below one can see Lower Ghatghar Dam. The place from where you are standing and viewing is under Ahmednagar District and the place you are viewing is Thane District.

Upper Ghatghar Dam Lake, Bhandardara

Upper Ghatghar Dam is situated around 24 kms from Shendi Village. It is accessible via two routes, one is from MTDC and other via Amruteshwar Temple road. Former being the shorter. It is a big dam situated remotely.

Kalsubai Range, Bhandardara

Kalsubai Peak (कळसूबाई शिखर) is the highest peak (1646 meters) of the Sahyadris. It is a whole range consisting of Kalsubai, Sakira Dongar, Kira Dongar, Alangad, Madangad, Kulangad. It is also a Natural Reserve. It is accessible for climb from Bari village which is the base village. 


Randha Falls, Bhandardara



10 Km from Shendi Village lies Randha Falls or Ranadha Falls. River Pravara descends down from a height of 170 ft into a beautiful gorge. However the waterfalls are magnificent only during monsoons. A dam is constructed just at the start of the falls. A temple is also located near the banks of Pravara River. Very dangerous falls during monsoon. Concrete walkways are being constructed along its banks.
